Lime paint questions for Fresco & Marrakech Walls
Lime paint application
Fresco and Marrakech Walls
-
What tools should be used to apply Fresco and Marrakech Walls?
Fresco: Do not apply lime paint with a roller. A roller will leave pigment and roller marks. Lime lumps will accumulate at the edges of the roller. This technique does not generate the typical look of lime.
We recommend applying Fresco lime paint with a block brush like our Fresco lime brush. The quality of the brush affects the texture and the final result of a brush stroke finish.
Marrakech Walls: Apply lime-plaster paint using a brush or by a roller.
Then, a spatula or trowel should be used to achieve the plaster paint textures and color variations. If you are not using the Pure & Original spatula, we advise you to use a light spatula with rounded edges to prevent scratching.
-
Should I prep the surface prior to painting?
In most cases, proper adhesion requires surface preparation with our Wallprim paint primer. Both Marrakech Walls and Fresco are 100% mineral products and they do not adhere well to synthetic surfaces such as drywall, sheetrock, regular paint coats, and other primers.
The surface has to be free of grease, dust, and humidity, and it must have no texture or imperfections.
-
Can I use any random primer?
No. Pure & Original Wallprim primer is uniquely designed for lime paints like Fresco and Marrakech Walls.
We can only guaranty good adhesion if you use Wallprim.
-
What surfaces can Fresco and Marrakech Walls paint be applied to?
Marrakech Walls lime-plaster paint and Fresco lime paint can be applied to many surfaces if cleaned properly and primed with Wallprim when necessary.
Good surfaces include painted walls, newly plastered walls, (non-woven) wallpaper, lime plaster, concrete plaster, suction mineral stones, aerated concrete, drywall, plaster blocks, wood, 100% mineral surfaces and other mineral surfaces.
Lacquers: Sand it first until it is matte, clean it and then apply Wallprim primer.
Latex: Apply Wallprim primer for good adhesion.
Other lime paints: The lime paint has to be fully dry and cured. Our advice is to wait for at least 48 hours. Wallprim might be helpful to eliminate the absorbent property of the original lime paint.
Plaster and stucco: Adhesion to a mineral surface is very good, as long as it is fully dry, well cured and solid. Remove loose parts and dust. Wallprim might be helpful to eliminate the absorbent property of stucco.
Wallpaper: Apply Wallprim first. Be cautious with wallpaper that has a texture, it affects the natural texture and appearance of lime paint.
Wood: Can be applied directly to soft and hard wood, but Wallprim is advised for any processed wood like MDF.
-
What sealer do you recommend for Fresco and Marrakech Walls?
If you wish to seal your Marrakach Walls lime plaster surface or your Fresco lime paint surface, we recommend using our Dead Flat Eco Sealer for a matte and transparent wall finish. The sealed surface will be highly washable and resistant to moisture, stains, and wear. It will deepen the color.
After 7-10 days (when lime is fully cured, light colors after 4 days), apply 2 or 3 thin, diluted (~15% with water) layers of Dead Flat Eco Sealer with a brush or air-spray. Wait 12 hours in between the layers. Don’t use a roller to prevent air bubbles.
Maintenance of lime paint
Fresco and Marrakech Walls maintenance
-
Does lime paint revile color?
No, lime paint does not revile color. That used to be the case with old lime paint, but not with our products.
-
Is lime paint washable?
No, lime paint and lime plaster-paint is not washable. It is porous and it will absorb the stain.
We recommend to remove dirt asap with a warm damp cloth and if needed, sand it slightly. It’s recommended to protect high traffic areas and wet rooms with our Dead Flat Eco Sealer.
-
Can lime paint be applied in a bathroom or restroom?
Yes, lime paint is resistant to bacteria and mold. It is very suitable for wet rooms. For parts that are exposed directly to water, we recommend making it water repellant and easy to clean with our Dead Flat Eco Sealer because water spots can cause stains on lime.
Note: We don’t support the use of Fresco or Marrakech Walls on the interior side of showers.
-
Is Lime paint heat resistant?
Yes, lime paint is inflammable. If protected with Dead Flat Eco Sealer, the sealer is heat resistant up to 212 Fahrenheit (100 degrees Celsius).
